Work Placements to Breakthrough in the Music Industry

At University Studies, we believe that industry placements are the key for students to gain meaningful employment after graduation. That is why many of our courses integrate relevant industry experience alongside the curriculum, giving our students the best chance for success. Our BA (Hons) Commercial Music Production students have been incredibly busy this year, taking part in a wide variety of projects.

The Lark Ascending, by Ralph Vaughan Williams, is one of the most popular pieces of classical music in the UK. To celebrate the 150 years since the birth of the composer, Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra showcased his work around Suffolk. With the tour launching at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds on 30 June, "The Lark's Flight" then went on to visit five additional venues across the county. Our students assisted the Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra and were instrumental in organising the live recordings of the shows. We were also able to involve and work alongside a group of students from Abbeygate Sixth Form College as well as One Sixth Form College who assisted our degree students and were able to gain experience in live recording and sound checking. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to work together with fellow students and extend our industry placements opportunities across the Eastern Colleges Group community.

Our academic team are invested in providing the best possible opportunities for our students to thrive in their careers and taking part in work placements is a fantastic way to gain first-hand experience within a field. Joseph Winters is graduating from the course this year with his foot already in the door to the industry. Joseph took part in a number of placements during his time with us and has been able to work with some big names. Through these opportunities, he has already secured employment with Brittania Row Productions who provide high-end audio equipment to a range of events.
