Showcase of Student Work
Today between 5 and 7pm (Friday 29 April 2022) we will be hosting an opening night for a showcase of some of our BA (hons) Art Practice student’s work. The exhibition takes place as part of their final year major project module in which they are required to curate and run their own event showcasing their work. The private view will be taking place this evening but the work will remain on display for some time afterwards.
The exhibiting student are as follows:
Elena Armes
Elena’s work is an O’Keefe-esque explosion of colour. It is a painted montage of natural forms, bulging to escape the canvas. On viewing her work, it seems as though the birds might fly out and escape the page at any moment. With a plethora of beautifully vibrant colours and dynamic movement, it appears as though the shapes are already moving in front of you.
Eleanor Cawdron
These beautiful illustrations are a display of childhood lightness. Her whimsical and bright style transporting the viewer to a nostalgic state of absolute freedom. With style reminiscent of Nick Sharratt, it speaks to a certain generation in a humbling, reminiscent tone. We also feel immensely proud that one of our students has been successful and excelled in fully illustrating a book.
Jade Forbes
Jade’s illustrative style is a bright and decorative presentation of infectious positivity. Their vibrant work tackles political subjects with an accessible and pragmatic approach. It cover themes of body positivity, trans rights and mental health in an approachable and modern style.
Crystal Jeffree
This collection of work is a deep introspection into the sexual and intimate parts of your mind. The illustrative and photographic collection plays on the taboo and the secret. It brings these hidden subjects to the light and forces the viewer to confront their own dark secrets by having them displayed publicly in front of them.
Jo Proudlove
Jo’s amazing intricate pieces are a montage of pattern and colour. The repetition of natural forms and the decorative style creates an aura of a William Morris style catapulted into an alternate reality of vibrant colour. These mosaics of form appear to be pushing out the audience, drawing them into their kaleidoscopic universe of nature.
Callum Stoten
This display or works involves dynamic collages with mixed media. They portray a dark, censored reality and give of a deeply eerie undertone whilst also remaining personal. Callum’s pieces distort and dampen, bringing fear to the forefront.
