Open Day Success showcases the variety on offer at University Studies

Choosing the right place to study is an important decision on your academic journey and visiting us on an open day is the best way to find out what we have to offer. Our past open event on the 19th of March was an amazing showcase of what we provide.

We were delighted to be able to host a range of activities and seminars including a display our virtual reality racing rig (seen on the left), a quick-fire sociology survey and a creative poetry workshop. Commercial Music Production also ran a music synthesis demonstration whilst English and History also delivered a short lecture on the interesting world of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde covering the mysterious gothic novella by Robert Louis Stevenson. Unfortunately, we were unable to host a live drumming session from Luke Bullen due to unforeseen circumstances.

A highlight of the day was the visit from Daniella Lord (Positive Action Recruitment Advisor and Vice-Chair of the Suffolk Ethnic Police Association) and Detective Constable Jason Thomas (Joint Learning and Development). They hosted an informative talk on PEQF entry routes into the police force, explaining the recruitment process and giving an insight into the possibilities of roles and careers available in the police force. They were also on hand to answer any questions from visitors one-to-one after the talk was delivered.

Whatever your level of education, our team of experts will deliver high quality learning with an incredible network of support to help you develop both on a professional and personal level.

Have you ever wondered about going to university?

We don’t necessarily mean living in student halls and partying for 3 years but working towards a qualification that can help you secure that dream job and make your career goals come true. Whatever your age or background, University Studies at West Suffolk College is here to help you on to the next step of your learning journey with an Access to Higher Education course.

What if I’ve been out of learning for a long time?

By enrolling on one of our Access to Higher Education Courses you will learn how to approach being a student and the different techniques you’ll need to be successful in your studies. The content of the course is designed to ensure you are fully equipped to study at degree level. Many people are nervous to start an Access to Higher Education or degree course, especially if they haven’t been in the classroom for some time. But please do not worry, we have an excellent wrap-around support network in the form of our Student Hub who will be able to support you every step of the way whether that be academically, with financial advice or on a personal level.

What if I do not meet the entry requirements?

If you are concerned that you are missing a qualification, please do not worry, our friendly Careers Advice and Guidance team can support you in finding one of West Suffolk College’s many Adult Education courses, ranging from Functional Skills and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) to GCSE Maths and English. Both face to face and online courses are available to gain that qualification and support you in your application because we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to access education.
