University Studies at West Suffolk College clears the way to help support class of 2023

University Studies at West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds is looking forward to welcoming new students when degree courses start again next month. Applicants to degree courses have been healthy this year - but a few places still remain.

Those interested in starting a programme in 2023 can visit the building based on Western Way, attend a clearing event on Saturday 19 August 2023 between 9.30am and 12.30pm or call the clearing hotline on 01284 412026. Degrees that can be studied range from construction to computing via video games design and graphic communication and all courses are affiliated to the prestigious University of East Anglia.

Stuart Appleby is the director of higher education at University Studies at West Suffolk College. Stuart said: “Our degrees attract people of all ages and backgrounds and many study with us because all our programmes require a two or three day a week commitment, giving you the opportunity to both work and stay closer to home.

“We pride ourselves on the support we offer and many of our graduates like the friendly campus and smaller class sizes that we have. All of our courses give our students industry experiences that can help them in the future. Most recently for example, one of our music learners had a masterclass with a producer who worked with The Beatles and David Bowie and someone else on a music class interviewed Lorne Balfe who composed the theme for Top Gun: Maverick. People who come to us will benefit from some new facilities including a new £2.4 million Extended Reality (XR) lab that looks like a set from a blockbuster science fiction film and we are always looking to invest more in the future. My overall message is – come and talk to us and become part of the next generation of success stories to benefit from the knowledge of our high quality lecturing teams and quality degrees.”

Jake Mills, 22, lives just outside Bury St Edmunds and he is a recent graduate of University Studies at West Suffolk College. Jake got a first class honours degree on an interactive, immersive and entertainment degree and has recently started working as a technical developer for – working at the new XR lab based at University Studies at West Suffolk College. Jake said: “I chose this university because it’s nearby and I didn’t want to move away from home. That decision has proved a good one as it’s a close knit atmosphere, you make strong relationships, you know everyone in the room and I feel you can ask more considered questions when you know your lecturer and I think you get a better experience. I’d definitely recommend it – I wouldn’t be where I am now if I hadn’t chosen to study there.”
