Therapy Dog Session for University Mental Health Day

On Thursday the 3rd of March we were delighted to welcome Dedham Therapy Farm for University Mental Health Day. The team brought along some of their therapy dogs who were very popular with the students.

University Mental Health Day is an opportunity to get students talking about their mental health, especially in relation to managing workload, financial worries and exam stress. It brings people together, creates a community and makes mental health a university-wide priority. We are very lucky to have a fantastic support team from personal progression tutors to academic support and we pride ourselves on supporting students in every aspect of their academic journey. Dedham Therapy Farm are based in Essex and they provide animal facilitated occupational therapy to those with mental health needs, learning disabilities, autism, anxiety and phobias. They brought along four of their therapy dogs, Gino, Seamus, Lily and Peggy, each with their own quirky personalities. Visit their website below:

Studies have shown that being around dogs elevates your serotonin and dopamine levels which helps you feel calm, relaxed and happy. This was a fantastic experience for our students and gave them the opportunity to take a well deserved break from their studies.
