Joseph Winters – BA (Hons) Creative and Commercial Music

I got to work with The Beatles and David Bowie’s music producer

22 year old Joseph Winters from Manea in Cambridgeshire went on a magical mystery tour during his degree and ended up having a masterclass with Ken Scott who worked with The Beatles. Here he reflects on his time at University Studies at West Suffolk College.

“I studied on a commercial and creative music degree and it was brilliant.

“I’ve worked with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra several times. I also worked with Simply Red.

“Thanks to a link with the Gus Dudgeon Foundation and JAMES, I got to have a session with Ken Scott who has had an incredible career working with The Beatles, David Bowie, Duran Duran and many more. His anecdotes recording historical moments in music were inspirational – as was the advice that he gave about the industry.

“Through my day job working for Britannia Rowe, I recently supported a tour involving the Fleet Foxes and also had the task of cleaning Cliff Richard’s microphone.

“I’ve just found out that I have won the rising star student award. It’s quite remarkable and it (my degree) has gone by so quickly.

“Looking back, I’d say that some of the best years of my studies have been at University Studies at West Suffolk College. I’ve met some incredible people and worked on some incredible projects. It was an amazing experience and I‘d recommend it to anyone.”
