Eastern Education Group helping put Bury on the global stage

West Suffolk College and Eastern Education Group were invited to represent Great Britain by the UK Government at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona.

Billed by organisers as ‘the largest and most influential connectivity event in the world’, college representatives were chosen to showcase some of their ground breaking technology during an occasion that saw 100,000 guests attend from 205 countries and territories.

During the four day conference, the college got to ‘take over’ the Great Britain stand and during this window they were able to secure high profile meetings with big players that included Microsoft and the European Space Agency.

They were also able to give interactive AI sessions to Lord Offord, The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Exports.

Discussions have also taken place with the University of Barcelona ahead of a possible collaboration with the college aimed at supporting students on health related programmes.

Tom Lloyd is the Executive Director – Skills, Innovation and Strategic Development for the Eastern Education Group. Tom said: “We would like to thank Norfolk and Suffolk Unlimited who invited us to this event on behalf of the Department for Business and Trade.

“We were delighted to be given this high profile opportunity thanks to the work we are doing across the group that includes the development of a multi-million pound XR lab that was opened last year in Bury St Edmunds.

“We were told that the reason we were invited to this events is because we are to be one of the most innovative tech leaders in the region.

“The reason we went along was to showcase how we are transforming education, how we are using cutting to technology to do this and how we are blazing the trail for other colleges in the UK to follow suit.

“All in all, by attending we were able to increase our networking opportunities and potential collaborations and we got to champion some of the great work we are doing on a global stage.”
