Department of Humanities

Humanities studies the development of human thought and culture. By focusing on literature, history and art, our humanities courses seek a broad and interconnected understanding of the human experience.

In Art practice, our ethos is that through exposure to art theory, analysis of contextual material and critical reflection, visual awareness is developed, and meaning is conveyed, encouraging creative growth.

Our historians and literary critics help students to understand, interrogate and challenge the frameworks by which our ideological world is structured: the stories we tell; the art we create; the structure we give to our past to make sense of our hopes for tomorrow.
